State of archaeological and historical documentation
The 16th century is often considered the "great century" for the art of glassmaking in the kingdom of France, which notably saw the development of the technique of enamelled glass. This is already known in the East and then in Italy from the 13th century.
“When is he in the south of France?"
This article takes stock of the contribution of archeology by listing the furniture from consumption sites for enamelled and white-decorated glasses and on the historical documentation well present in the south-west of France thanks to the minutes of notaries. . We note in particular the presence of Italian glassmakers in the south-west from 1569. It was the archaeological studies of glass carried out in the south of France that made it possible to make this synthesis.
